BURGESS HILL TOWN COUNCIL TEAM UP WITH BURGESS HILL DISTRICT LIONS TO BRING DIABETES AWARENESS EVENT TO BURGESS HILL

On Saturday 4 March, a Diabetes Awareness event will be held in Church Walk. Anyone over the age of eighteen will be able to get a free blood glucose test, provided by trained Diabetes Practitioners. These tests give a blood glucose reading within five seconds and are an indicator of where your blood glucose is at the time of testing. The trained professionals will also be on hand to give advice and signpost those they think could benefit from further diabetes screening. Mid Sussex District Council's Wellbeing Team will also be on site to answer questions, and give out advice to attendees on health and wellbeing.

The testing and health advice will be held in Burgess Hill Theatre Club, from 10am – 2pm. Outside the building, a climbing wall will be in operation, as well as some fun games – including the popular 'Strike-a-Light' game! Burgess Hill District Lions will also be running a Remote-Control Car Challenge! Guide the car through tight bends, chicanes and hair pin turns to find the fastest route back to the start!
The blood glucose testing is strictly 18+, but the games will be fun for all the family! No booking is required for this event.

This event is sponsored by Burgess Hill District Lions, and organised by Burgess Hill Town Council.

Alan Ranger, President of Burgess Hill District Lions said: "For many years, Lions Clubs in the UK have made Diabetes Awareness an important community service activity. The members of Burgess Hill District Lions Club are pleased to be able to provide funds and assistance to allow this inaugural Diabetes Awareness event to take place in Burgess Hill on Saturday 4 March."

Town Mayor, Peter Chapman said: "As always, the Town Council is very appreciative of the support from the Burgess Hill District Lions to provide an event which could flag up health issues for our residents while also providing entertainment for the young people. It will ultimately drive footfall into the town centre and benefit our retailers on the day."
