Curry Nights

Burgess Hill District Lions also raise funds for charity with Curry Nights.

The next Curry Night will be at Flavour Restaurant on 26th March 2020, in aid of CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services). Click here to see the poster and here to see the Menu.  Please return the completed menu to tony@parris.co.uk together with any dietary requirements.

Our previous Curry Night was at Flavour Restaurant on 28th November 2019, in aid of Respect Youth Club.

Our first Curry Night in 2019 was at Naasta Indian Street Food at 226 London Road, Burgess Hill, RH15 9QR (where Shapla's used to be) on 24th January.  This was in aid of Signposts, followed by one on 25th April 2019 in aid of CT Transport (formerly Bluebird).

Our fundraisers the previous year were on 19th January 2018 in aid of the Mayor's Charity 'Signposts' and then on 24th May 2018 in support of St Peter and St James Hospice and to celebrate the Shapla's 35 years in Burgess Hill.

We also had one at Flavour Restaurant on 5th June 2018, in aid of Burgess Hill Community Radio and also one on 27th September 2018 in aid of the Friends of Woodlands Meed.

Our event there on 6th July 2017 was in aid of the Friends of Woodlands Meed:

Lion President John Carter with the owner of the Shapla

Burgess Hill District Lions were pleased to work again with the Shapla from London Road, Burgess Hill, to raise money for the Friends of Woodlands Meed Special Needs School.  Thirty eight people which included the Head Teacher Adam Rowland and Lion President John Carter. We all enjoyed an excellent meal and the service was very good, as well as eating everybody was buying tickets for the super raffle and the proceeds from the tickets, raffle and generous donations amounted to £400 and then Mr Hussain presented us with a cheque on behalf of the Shapla for £50. So everyone went away happy, knowing that together we had raised £450 for the Friends of Woodlands Meed School.

Our fundraiser on 19th January 2017 was in aid of the Mayor's Charity 'Signposts':

The Mayor of Burgess Hill Jacqui Landriani said she "gave a huge thank you to Burgess Hill District Lions who organised a wonderful fundraising curry night at the Shapla Restaurant in Burgess Hill for my chosen charity Signposts Mid Sussex Ltd. Not only did we receive wonderful service and excellent food by the staff at the Shapla but thanks to the generosity of all those attending including Chairman of Mid Sussex District Council Peter Reed, Haywards Heath Mayor Sujan Wickremaratchi and Lions President Sarah Dorrington.  Mr Hussain, owner of the Shapla, who also made a very generous donation which helped the final figure raised to be £555 stated that a crowd of 50 people is the most he has ever had seated in all the years he has owned the restaurant. Thank you also to everyone who attended for their support and for all the contributions to the raffle and for helping to create a wonderful event."

We had an event on  9th June 2016 in aid of Friends of Woodlands Meed special school and one on 20th October 2016 in aid of Sightsavers.

Burgess Hill District Lion President John Gee met the First Responders Team Leader Nickie Smale on 17th July 2013 at the Shapla Restaurant to present a cheque for £440 which was the proceeds of the celebratory Charity Curry Night that was held there in May. On receipt of the cheque Nickie had her own surprises in store as she presented Certificates of Appreciation to Mutahar Hussain of the Shapla and Lion President John Gee.
